Description:
This type of basket is a panier de ferme or market basket, sturdily constructed to withstand daily use. This basket is a combination of wicker, leather, and metal, which indicates a more refined design for ease of transport over the shoulder. These were used for carrying produce, goods, lunches - during train travel, and even pet pigeons! These are both rare and very popular for collectors.  For me, I can appreciate the social history, and still very functional.
